Consequently, some problems (for example, damaged files, denied access, or slow performance) occur more frequently when you work across a network or from removable media than when you work from a local hard disk. "When you save and open files across a network or from removable media, many variables affect application performance. "When you want to save an Illustrator file to a network or removable drive, Adobe recommends you first save the file to an internal hard disk, and then close the file and use the Finder to copy the closed file to the external or network drive, or save the file to the network using Adobe Version Cue."

Or, print them to reduce potential problems and damage to your files."īecause Adobe pulled that article from their current help site.ĬS5 (search for the below via Internet Archive or Google's cache): "Adobe recommends storing files on a local hard disk when you open, save. “Adobe Systems does not provide support for networks and removable media.” Per their statements (see below), it makes zero allowance for local network connections, nor (let alone) connecting across a WAN.

I'm making this a sticky topic because it keeps coming up here in the Apple area of SW and it seems that far too many people are completely unaware of it.Īdobe does not - nor have they ever - supported working on files directly off of a network share, not for Mac or Windows clients.

Update: As reported below by Kevinmcox, Adobe has added some network support for the latest InDesign CC 2015.4 (June 2016) release - please search below for "Adobe InDesign CC 2015.4 Release | June 2016 "Improved stability while working with network files" - but that is only for files of 100 MB or less (so meaningless for most work by professional designers using InDesign).
